A milestone moment...

Last night, Evernight emailed me the cover for my free read "Pleasure Android 7.1"... it's my fist cover ever, and it was such a big moment. I just love the cover and how the designer captured my story. The release date is set for Friday, May 23rd, already!  Monday and Tuesday I'm having guests on my blog and I will be back on Wednesday to do the cover reveal for my book. I'm so excited to finally see a cover for one of my stories.

Well, I will leave you with the unedited beginning of the story...

What the fuck.
A seven-foot-tall box occupied the middle of my living room. I stared at the prime male specimen behind the clear front panel. Well over six feet tall, with dusky skin, dark brown wavy hair, broad shoulders, aquiline nose, full lips—basically, he looked like a model, the kind you’d drool over in an ad for high-end products.
With his eyes closed, his long, thick lashes grazed his chiseled cheekbones. He looked as though he slept—an illusion of the most expensive kind.
I sighed, hands on my hips. My best friend, Lexia, had done it. For my fortieth birthday, she got me a sex droid. She’d joked about it, but I never thought she’d actually follow through. It had to be her—she was the only other person who had access to my apartment.
On the box, in large, blocky print, it proclaimed “Domestic Android 7.1” and underneath it, in fancy script, “For Your Pleasure.” Alrighty then. And what if it was my pleasure to get rid of it? I stalked to the box and circled around it. The back and both sides were solid panels of striking red. If it was supposed to be romantic, their marketing department missed the boat. I wasn’t a big fan of Valentine’s Day, and this was even cheesier than a heart-shaped box of chocolates.
Although, I could remember a time when chocolates, roses, and a little stuffed bear made my heart skip a beat. I had grown a bit jaded over the years, which was probably why my friends decided to gang up and torture me with this… thing. It stood there, like the proverbial elephant in the room. There would be no vid watching on my birthday, cuddled up with a bowl of ice cream. No relaxing in the tub with a good romance novel. Now I was too distracted, and I wasn’t going to be able to enjoy myself until I got this thing out.
A plan formulated: get the box outside and message his creator, Atlas Robotics Corporation, to come pick him up. No, not him. It. I studied the box. At five foot five, it had well over a foot on me. I tried to tilt it to the side, planning on then pushing it out the rest of the way. The damn thing was heavy. So heavy, it didn’t even wobble when I gave it my all.
Exhausted, I plopped down on my yellow pleather couch to glare at the box. I refused to build up a sweat today of all days. What a disaster my birthday was turning out to be. There was no getting the box out until Atlas Robotics agreed to stop by. Since they had no incentive to be eager to process a return, it could be days. Maybe even weeks, I thought miserably.

Not fair that here I was, suffering, while he—it!—stood there, all serene and peaceful. I jumped to my feet and approached the box. There was an easier way to do this. Turn him on and order him to take a hike on his own two legs. The more I considered it, the more I liked this plan. Quick, easy, smart.

Welcome Casey Moss!

Welcome Author Casey Moss to my blog to talk about her new release at Evernight Publishing!

Available now at Evernight Publishing ~ Open World – C.O.V.E.N. by Casey Moss

The world of C.O.V.E.N. (Clans of Vegas – Endless Night) first appeared in Evernight Publishing’s anthology Keyboards & Kink (available here: http://www.evernightpublishing.com/keyboards-and-kink/ & at other fine e-tailers) in Casey’s story, AFK.
In AFK, we saw a peek into I-D-8 Entertainment’s in-production MMORPG: Clans of Vegas – Endless Night, also known as C.O.V.E.N. when Beth and another gamer got sucked into the game for real.
Now, when it comes to Open World, it’s actually made up of parts from two novellas that had been previously published. Those stories were my very first published ones released in 2008 under my alter ego’s name. A few years ago, I received the rights back on them, and they sat in a file until this year. There’s been some major work done to revamp them from a sci-fi’ish plot to the computer gaming one present in the book today. I am so excited these stories, and more to come in the C.O.V.E.N. world, have found new life and a great new home with Evernight Publishing.
In the story, Open World, some of the employees of I-D-8 have joined together for a LAN party to test the game. For definitions on the computer gaming term: open world, check out http://www.techopedia.com/definition/3952/sandbox-gaming).

Here’s a look into the story…
~ Blurb ~
The world has broken out in wars. Las Vegas has been ravaged by chemical warfare and is now home to several clans and creatures.
Welcome to I-D-8 Entertainment’s newest game: Clans of Vegas—Endless Night.
Friends and family have gathered for a crunch time playtest of C.O.V.E.N.. When a horrible thunderstorm hits, everyone’s sucked into the game for real. In the MMORPG, Hope Collins is kidnapped by Buzz and forced to submit to his whims. Her boyfriend, Alden, has to delay his quest of defeating a clan’s prince to save her, but time and circumstance don’t seem to be on his side. Faith Collins is bombarded by strange dreams brought on by Buzz. Her boyfriend, Tavis, learns to dream walk, but can he help break the spell she’s under and save her before she’s lost to him?
C.O.V.E.N. is more than just a game. It’s a whole other world.

~ Excerpt ~
Why the hell is that man buddying up to Hope’s dad and trying to charm her? Why is he even here? He’s a bean counter, not one of the game developers, not one of the I-D-8 family.
Kids on the red seat swings and yellow slide of the play set shouted at each other, jarring him out of his thoughts. He tossed a cursory glance their way, then looked back at the other family he one day wanted to be a part of. Faith, Hope’s fraternal twin, joined them at the table. There was a cousin, too—Cassandra, one of I-D-8’s story writers—who happened to be missing at the moment from the gathering.
Once more the air shimmered around him. This time a mirage-like heat disturbance gave everything in his line of sight a watery luster. Something weird was going on. He wished he could pinpoint what, since he reacted to it as if he were on a boat—slightly unbalanced and disorientated. He hated feeling that way.
Den returned to the meat on the grill. He couldn’t chance having anyone seeing his face and the concern that might have slipped through on it. He loved puzzles and solved them all no matter their difficulty, so he really disliked not being able to figure out a solution to the day’s bizarreness.
I can’t let them see me sweat. If any of them catch wind that I’m not the laid back dude I’ve presented myself as, then everything I’ve worked for will be over. I can’t have that.
Replaying the events of the past few minutes in his head, he dissected them bit by bit in an attempt to find anything. Just one smidgen of information could give him a clue as to the abnormal sensations he’d been experiencing. A cool breeze brushed his skin, sending goose bumps to dance with the hairs on his arm. He closed his eyes and let his thoughts glide where they wanted. The task of sorting the details sent him into a calm, meditative state. Through the process he used to mull over difficult enigmas, he hoped the answer would reveal itself.
As if on automatic pilot, he breathed deep of the mesquite scent wafting from the wood chips amongst the coals and slowed his heart of its frantic pace. Concentrate, he told himself.
Emotions and reactions in check, he willed a protective aura shield around himself.
Pick up on the man’s thoughts. Sense his purpose.
In his opinion, information only needed to go one way…from the prince to him. He couldn’t afford to have the fellow figure out who he was.
Not yet at least. It’s way too soon.

Another exciting update!

The novella I wrote for the Naughty Fairy Tales line for Evernight was accepted for publication! Yay, I was sweating bullets on this one, waiting for a response. I think I mentioned before that this one pushes a few boundaries and is a bit on the dirty side. Tentative title is Saved by Perseus, and yes, it's a retelling of the myth of Andromeda.

Here are a few pins from my "Greek Mythology" board on Pinterest that served as great inspiration. And yes, there is a tentacled monster involved ;) So excited to have this one accepted, and can't wait to have it published!

Coming to Evernight...

So excited - I got the acceptance for my contemporary short story! This was the one that I got the idea for out of nowhere while I was exercising. And it's not my usual thing, since I tend to write things set in other worlds or other times, but this one is set in present day, on a college campus. If you're a fan of Evernight, it will be categorized under Romance on the Go, New Adult, Erotic, Rubenesque (BBW), and Contemporary... just to give you an idea of what it's like. And it's tentatively titled "Venus in Fur Coat", to be published in July. See below :)

Updates

Just catching up on where I am with my writing. I completed, revised, and submitted my fantasy novella and contemporary short story, so waiting to hear back on those.

Next on my list of projects is revising my fantasy novel. It's currently 63K and will likely get longer after the revisions. And while I'm working on revising it, I will probably be plotting out the futuristic trilogy I have in mind. I think I've decided to write that next, rather than the Dystopian series idea I have. I still plan on writing that, but probably only after I complete the trilogy. And then of course, my fantasy novel is part of a series too, so I will have to fit those in somewhere. So, staying busy!

My free trial at BigStock ended and I got 35 pretty awesome images. Here's one of me, hard at work (LOL)... actually, my novel that I am going to be revising right now has a steampunk/fantasy setting, so this totally fits:
